As the dust settles on the events of the X Factor at the weekend I have to say I am surprised at the public’s reaction! In all honesty who really believes this show is a talent contest? It may have started out as one, but now it is purely an entertainment show put in place to win a ratings war against the BBC! Just a bit of a coincidence that all this happens the same week Strictly starts on the BBC!
Why do people get so irate about it?. My husband and I predicted what was going to happen (as I am sure many of the rest of you did) before it took place. The show wants media exposure, it wants to trend on social media and it wants the Monday morning headlines – mission accomplished! Do you vote? I am guessing the majority answer NO, so why get so annoyed by it. Just about everyone I know watches it, but the only people I know who vote are people with children age 7-11 and they are voting for their children which is exactly why people like Rylan get through! Children like the glitz and hype they are not interested in an amazing singer in her 30’s that belts out a country tune. I thought Carolyn was great, but I wouldn’t vote for her – I wouldn’t vote for anyone and haven’t in all the years I have watched it.
I’m sorry, but I believe it is all staged, even down to Gary walking off (and I am a big Gary fan). It won’t stop me tuning in as I am sure it won’t most house holds. It may even get some new viewers to see what all the fuss is about. At the end of the day those of us who stay in on a Saturday night all like to be entertained and this is what the X Factor does. The BBC ran the Voice, which in my opinion, was much more of a talent show than X Factor and look at the result – they had to cancel their tour due to poor ticket sales. The UK public don’t really want to see the best singers climb to success through a dull talent programme. They want scandal and drama. Look of the line up of contestants, a selection or hard luck stories, groups torn apart or thrown together & single parents trying to overcome hardship. The show builds characters for the public to buy into and for that reason it can only be called an Entertainment Show!
